Dear Christine and Don – Thank you for the opportunity to make a donation in honor of your wedding.
I chose the United Methodist Committee on Relief and its Campaign against Malaria Advance #14454T.
My story is that my dad served in the South Pacific during World War II. He contracted two types of malaria. Between the malaria and his childhood asthma, doctors didn’t believe he would survive to be 35. Fortunately, he proved them wrong. However, what I don’t think most of us realize is how pervasive and long-lasting the effects of malaria are. My dad had monthly bouts for years which often put him in the hospital. He was in and out of hospitals frequently until I was about 8 years old.
It is a joy to me that there are now multiple choices in prevention and treatment. One thing which can make a huge difference in every household in the Third World countries is having enough mosquito nets for the whole family. Nets are so simple and so basic and so very effective.
As you two are wrapped in love, let us wrap all of humankind with caring and sharing. God bless you always.
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us and for making a donation to UMCOR in our honor. UMCOR has always been an organization that means so much to us. As United Methodist‘s we support everything that UMCOR does with our congregational giving and denominational structure so that every dollar that is given in support of an “Advance Special” goes directly to that need and all overhead and administrative costs are paid from our own weekly tithes and offerings.
